The Stirring of the In-Between: Navigating the Perimenopause Transition

There is a specific kind of restlessness that arrives in March. As the light stretches longer and the air turns soft, we feel a stirring. It’s unsettling. By nature, we want to hurry the season along—to skip the mud and the melt and land firmly in the bloom of spring.

But nature doesn’t rush, and neither should we.

Beneath the seemingly lifeless winter soil, there is a quiet revolution. Roots are regenerating. Growth is happening in the dark. If you look closely, the glints of spring are already breaking through the frost.

Lately, I’ve been looking inwardly and realizing: This is exactly where I am.

I am in the “in-between” of midlife.

It’s a transition that feels as unstable as a March afternoon—one hour of brilliant sunshine followed by a sudden, darkening storm. Some days, I am my best self: energetic, motivated, and vibrant. Other days, the hormonal clouds roll in, bringing a heaviness I can’t quite shake.

Even with the support of HRT and deep sleep, the path isn’t linear. There are still the heavy mornings, the mysterious headaches, and the frustration of a body that seems to be changing its own rules despite my best efforts at the gym. It’s a season of “where do I go from here?”

So, what is the lesson in the thaw?

It is patience. It’s the grace to stay in bed when the body asks for rest. It’s the courage to move forward even when you don’t have all the answers.

Just as the shifting seasons eventually settle into the warmth of summer, this transition of perimenopause will also find its light. I am learning the tools to navigate this crossing gracefully, and I want to invite you to do the same. We don’t have to weather these storms alone.

By embracing the “in-between,” we prepare ourselves for the growth that is coming.
